Community:

Our Cooking with Cops program utilizes the power of food to help heal and strengthen communities.  We also provide cooking classes in churches, community centers, and park districts.

About The Program

The Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club consists of local chefs who volunteer their time to travel throughout the community and offer healthy lifestyle cooking classes in a safe and nurturing environment.  Our professional chefs guide young chefs step-by-step through healthy recipes and provide them with “chefs’ secrets” for irresistible dishes.

Budding chefs learn the basics of kitchen safety, proper food handling, food preparation, cooking techniques, presentation and so much more!

Students will have the use of kitchen tools and aprons while in class and will be given their own chefs’ hat and recipe cards to take home.

Students also build and tend to school and community gardens. These gardens enhance the school and community dynamics by reflecting health, unity, and beauty. Once harvested, students use the fresh ingredients to create delicious, healthy meals and are welcome to take whatever they wish home to their families. All remaining food is then donated within the community.

Parents, teachers, and caregivers — contact us to get involved. Parents, teachers, and caregivers are invited and encouraged to participate.

Our cooking philosophy

Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club believes that confidence in the kitchen starts early. Volunteer chefs guide students through kitchen safety, proper food handling, preparation techniques, and presentation—then send young cooks home with chef hats and recipe cards so families can practice together. We focus on wholesome, approachable dishes rather than restaurant spectacle: the goal is daily healthy eating habits that help confront childhood obesity in Chicago communities.

Our specialties are community-based cooking education and experiential learning. Through Cooking with Cops and classes in churches, community centers, and park districts, we use food to build trust across neighborhoods. Students also plant and tend school and community gardens, then cook with the harvest and donate surplus produce. That farm-to-table loop teaches where food comes from, reduces waste, and celebrates local ingredients.

Parents, teachers, and caregivers are welcome in our learning spaces. When families cook beside children, lessons stick. Whether you meet us at a wellness partnership event or a weekend community cook-off, you will find the same philosophy: respectful instruction, allergy awareness, food safety first, and joy at the table.
